Having graduated in Architecture in 1977, he immediately began working with the studios of Richard Rogers and Norman Foster. In 1984, he founded his own practice, David Chipperfield Architects in London, opening offices also in Tokyo, Milan, Berlin and Shanghai.The studio’s most important work includes the River and Rowing Museum (Henley on Thames), the Anchorage Museum of History and Art (Alaska), the City of Justice in Barcelona, the America's Cup Building Veles e Vents (Valencia) and the Neues Museum (Berlin).Major projects currently in progress include Ansaldo, City of Cultures (Milan), the Figge Art Museum (Davenport), the Natural History Museum in Verona, Salerno Palace of Justice (Salerno) and the expansion of the cemetery on the Island of San Michele, Venice.David Chipperfield is Professor of Architecture at Stuttgart’s Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Kunste and holds the Mies Van Der Rohe Chair at the Escola Tecnica in Barcelona.The subject of much international recognition, he has been appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) and knighted by the United Kingdom for his services in the field of architecture, he is an honorary member of the Florence Academy of Fine Arts, he has received the Wolf prize for the Arts and a Royal Institute of British Architects gold medal for architecture.For FontanaArte, he has designed the Chandelier hanging lamp and Corrubedo, the wall lamp for indoor and outdoor lighting.
